February saw Trisha Goddard making her eagerly anticipated debut on Channel Five with an all-new programme. Trisha's established popularity is combined with a fresh and inspiring format, tackling difficult and important issues in the one-hour show.
With a new format and a new channel, Trisha's Norwich based Town House TV Productions Ltd has additionally opted for a new studio location - Millennium Studios, Elstree.
Home to TV lighting production company ELP and a host of other on site services, Millennium Studios was an excellent match for the new 'issue' based chat show.
The factors which gave this venue the edge are as follows:
The production team needed a location close to London but still within easy commute from the eastern region where most of them are based.
Millennium Studios is within the M25 and just off the A1M so transport connections could not be better. Also with Elstree being a recognised centre for TV production there are plenty of relevant services and amenities close at hand.
The format of Trisha's shows means that often guests and participants need to be kept apart. 'Confrontation' shows or 'reunion' shows, for example, have to keep guests apart either for surprise or for security reasons.
"The Millennium layout is good because it has multiple holding areas and four separate entrances into the sound stage." Says studio project manager John Singer.
"The complex offers other facilities like the Green Room and Bar which provide alternative locations to shoot interviews and house participants"
Due to the complexity of each show and the fact that five shows are produced during a hectic two day schedule there are usually upwards of 50 crew milling around. Each show has its own team which require separate office space and catering. The facilities at Millennium are able to provide self contained office space and an on site bar and grill provides food throughout the day.
ELP, owners of the studio facility have also provided all the on site lighting.
Lighting director Roger Law assisted by Steve Riches established a generic lighting rig using conventional Fresnels, Source 4's and Ground Rows.
