ELP were delighted to be part of this year's song for Wales competition.
Broadcast live on S4C from the Newport Centre, this competition follows a similar format to the Eurovision song contest. On the 1st March 2004 viewers voted for their favourite songs and out of twelve live acts the Welsh public chose a song called Tears of Silence performed by a trio from Carmarthen.
ELP supplied a range of fixed and moving lights for the production and worked with lighting director Martyn Rourke to create alternative moods and visuals for each performance.
ELP's six man crew, led by John Davies, handled all the rigging and power distribution for the event. "The nine metre truss circle constructed from curved 'A' type truss is particularly worth a mention" comments ELP production manager John Singer. "It spanned the whole of the main stage area and provided the LD with 360 degree lighting positions."
Song for Wales is another example of ELP's continued work in the region. Other Welsh productions where ELP have supplied a mixture of lighting, rigging and power are The National Eisteddfod of Wales, the youth Eisteddfod, coverage of the Welsh Assembly Elections for BBC Wales and a light entertainment show called "Y Bws Gwad" for Welsh broadcaster S4C
To 'officially' pledge their continued support of the Welsh Film and Television production scene ELP will continue to sponsor BAFTA CYMRU (the Welsh Bafta's).
