ELP’s Pinewood office provided location lighting and power for a new comedy series broadcast this autumn called ‘Green Green Grass’
The 'Only Fools and Horses' spin-off show has been an unexpected success for BBC1 attracting nine million viewers when it first aired. The sitcom follows Del Boy's friends Boycie and Marlene, played by John Challis and Sue Holderness, as they flee Peckham and head for the Shropshire countryside.
Produced by John Sullivan's Shazam Productions this new series provided an excellent opportunity for ELP to impress.
Director of Photography, John Simmons, remarked … “ELP were prepared to invest in a range of new kit for this job. All the lights were brand spanking new…..this seemed totally in keeping with the freshness of the new show”
John was referring to ELP’s range of specialised Dedo 400 and Diva lights which he prefers on location as they are small, portable and pack a powerful punch.
“ELP went out of their way to make sure I had everything that I wanted” concludes John.
Additionally ELP furnished the production with:
• 60KW load carrying generator
• Lighting kit comprising 4K compacts all the way down to 200W Pars
• A variety of incandescent lights including Dedo kits, Zap lights and Springballs
• Assorted Kinoflo
• Chimeras of various sizes
• Rigid cable and power distribution appropriate for rough terrain location work
The main challenge of this rural location shoot was the remoteness of Boycie’s farm.
“We were literally in the middle of nowhere close to the Welsh border” remarks Gaffer Stefan Lissner. “There were no mobile phone signals and frequent power cuts. Thank God for ELP’s reliable power generator!”
“One morning a 4K light went down, we mentioned this to the ELP Pinewood office but as we were in the sticks we didn’t expect much to happen. Next thing we knew, after coming back from lunch a replacement 4K was sitting on the tailboard waiting for us. It came out of nowhere. No fuss. It was just done. I still don’t know how they got it there so quick”
“We had an excellent team spirit on the production, a real family atmosphere. The way that ELP looked after us fitted right in. Their personal touch really goes a long way.”
