

ELP were delighted to be one of the sponsors for this years Welsh BAFTA celebrations which took place at Cardiff International Arena on 24 April.
Best Lighting Director and Best Live Coverage / OB team were the two categories backed by ELP. The award for Best Lighting Director went to Bernie Davis for his work on the Wales Millennium Centre Opening Weekend.
It was a busy night for ELP staff as, in addition the schmoozing, wining and dining a six man crew led by LD Darren Fletcher provided all the lighting and rigging for the evenings entertainment.
“Our main challenge was the short build time” remarked Darren. “We couldn’t access the arena until about 7am on the day of the show. Rehearsals started at 1pm so we had to move fast and work in tandem with the set and sound crews”
The six man crew comprising Rory Mackay (Board Op), Gary Smith (Rigger), Mathew Smith (Dimmers), Charlotte Smith (Follow spot), Jo
hn Lockwood and Andy Hopkins installed an assortment of Mac 600, Mac 500, Mac 2000, Pixel Pars, VL 1000. Two separate towers were constructed for Pani follow sports and alternate green and red par cans provided a patriotic Welsh finishing touch to warm the truss.
Darren Fletcher summed up by saying “we have been supporting the Welsh Film and TV industry for several years now and have seen it gain strength and momentum. This year has been the best yet.”
